Investigation of Groundwater Contamination

Background: Earth Forensics was hired by a national recognized plaintiff law firm to support their litigation efforts and to provide expert witness services, including an expert report for an investigation of groundwater contamination in Fennville, MI.

The Study: Historically wastewater from the company’s food processing activities had been disposed of through spray irrigation into agricultural field. The contamination was potentially resulting from the company’s wastewater disposal via spray irrigation which was derived from their food processing activities. There were total of 24 properties involved in this litigation that had at least one or more drinking water well(s) that had potential been used during the companies spraying activities.

Earth forensics scope of work included an investigation regarding the geology, hydrogeology and hydrology concerning the area of interest. Data analysis of surface water and water chemistry was further reviewed to investigate groundwater contamination in the area.

Results: The litigation case settled after expert reports and depositions.
